Where's Waldo?Il

I mean where's Deb? I made it in my truck but alas no wife. Deb is headed for her sisters. She was an hour behind be but the real problem I think was that she was bottoming out.

Let it snow, let it snow

Last weekend was a blip on the radar - 60 degrees in November? This weekend it was pleasant but typical November weather. The snow was wet (it was warm) and stuck to the trees - beautiful is all I can say.

These last 2 pics were taken about 100 yards from our place at 1pm.

Deb is considering a new profession.

This weekend our main focus was tiling. Last weekend I installed the cement board (backer board) and this weekend Deb tiled. I was the cut man and tender. The following pics are in no particular order.

Notice the coffee cup holder built into the stone wall on the far right.

loft lighting

I installed the loft track lighting today - the bulbs are not the correct ones in this pic.

This is the other side - the light on the right has the correct bulb (I think)

All four fixtures are the same.

Tile Prep

I installed all the cement board and next week Deb and I will install the tile. The weather was incredible. It must have been 60 today, sunny and no wind.

My Stone Wall

The wall is now done (more or less). I will touch it up and then we have to make the mantel. The mantel will cover up the first few inches. The beer bottles are to show the shelves built in - there is also a 'coffee cup holder' built into the left near the top. I forgot to put a cup there to show it.

Bedroom Floor

Jim and I put the floor in Saturday. It needs to be sanded and varnished which I will work on next weekend.

Tile Wall (thanks Steph)

The tile wall in the kitchen is now tiled and grouted. Deb did the tiling and we both grouted.

Random Planking or How Anal Can One Be?

My latest toy - beats the heck out of the manual ones.

So the flooring comes in 4 widths (2", 3", 4", and 5") The flooring is supposed to be installed 'randomly'. There is not an equal amount of each size (for example the 2" is 11% of the lineal feet of planking). So how is one to 'randomly' install flooring? I wrote a computer program that took the decision out of my (and Deb's) hands. I had decided that I was too anal to select widths without having a pattern - but Deb thinks I was being anal in writing a program - not sure who is correct - but it looks nice (all 4' of it).

Irony

So we build a place in rock heaven. Our footings in the one corner are on bedrock. There are rocks everywhere (just ask the well drillers). So what do we do - drive 50+ miles to Minocqua to buy rocks for the wall

Art, Tile & Deb
